West Orange Public Library Closed to the Public Until Further Notice- Curbside Pick Up Now Available


UPDATE:  West Orange Public Library Is Now Offering Curbside Pick-Up!


We are happy to announce that the library will begin curbside pick-up on Wednesday, June 17, 2020 per Governor Murphy’s Administrative Order No. 2020-15 Phase 2 Re-Opening of NJ.
(Please bear with us as we are fine-tuning as we go! We appreciate your patience.)

 Please note the following guidelines*: 

At this time, you may request materials from your residential (home) library only . BCCLS is currently not fulfilling requests between towns. Materials from other towns can still be returned to West Orange Library.

The following BCCLS policies remain in place:

  • Patrons may take out a maximum of 50 items at one time.
  • Materials will be held for up to three (3) days for pickup.

Requesting Materials for Pick-Up (Please only choose one request option.)
To request materials, please contact the library at 973-736-0196,, or for children’s materials Library staff will pull materials and call you when the items are ready to be picked up. 

Online requests* must be placed at least one (1) hour prior to the pick-up window to allow time for pulling and processing. Pick-up windows will be 10-1PM, 2:30-5:30, 6:30-7:30 PM. 

*Time-slots are for coordination purposes only, you may pick-up materials at any time during your pickup window. If all time slots are filled for the window you would like call us (973) 736-0198 x4 . We will pull your materials and call you when they are ready. 

Picking Up Materials 

Once you arrive at the library, call (973) 736-0198 x4 to notify staff that you are outside.

  • If you are driving, notify the staff member of your name, the parking spot number, and color of your car. The staff member will bring the materials to your car and place in the trunk.
  • If you are walking to the library, please use front entrance on Mount Pleasant Avenue. Staff will bring materials to the door and place on a designated table outside the door.

Returning Materials 

Return all materials to the book drops beneath the building. For the safety of the public and staff, all materials returned are set aside for 72 hours before being checked in and re-shelved.

Books are just a call or click away from the West Orange Public Library 

The building is closed but materials from the West Orange Public Library can be easily accessed remotely with an internet connection. Contact the library at: where you can e-mail your inquiry about electronic books, audiobooks, movies, and more. A librarian will answer your request on a timely basis and help meet your needs. 

For those without an internet connection the West Orange Public Library can still be your source for books during home confinement. Call the library at 973-736-0198, select “reference” at the prompt and leave a message describing the kind of books you are interested in.  A librarian will contact you and match your request to an unused clean new book using recommended Covid-19 precautions. Arrangements will also be made to have the book delivered directly to you.

Instructions to apply for a library card online. West Orange residents and Town employees are able to apply for cards.

Here’s what you should do:
1. Go to the BCCLS homepage at
2. Click "Apply for an eCard"
3. Select West Orange as home library
4. Enter the 07052 zip code to get to form
5. Town employees will need to fill out the form with Courtesy Card as their middle name and enter their business address as their home address.
6. Contact the library via the email to get further access to eLibraryNJ, Kanopy, etc.

Upon successfully filling out the form, a temporary card number will be sent to your email and you will have immediate access to eBCCLS and the LIbby platform.
Once the library reopens,  you will need to go in person to verify West Orange residency or affiliation.
