West Orange NJ Top 10 Facebook Posts for 2016
It's crazy to think that social media wasn't a thing just three short years ago here in West Orange, NJ. Now we have Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and even messed around with Snapchat this year. One thing we can definitely say is the social media culture is active here in town showing our residents care about WO for better or for worse. 2016 was another great year for our community -- here's our Top 10 social postings of 2016 -- #WeAreWestOrange

NO.10: The Thomas Edison National Museum kicks off our list when we posted a video created by Vidoovy that gave a quick glimpse behind-the-scenes of one of West Orange's hidden treasures and encouraged everyone to make a weekend trip here!
NO.9: Amazing photo taken by West Orange resident Jessica Yun of Jess & Beck Photography at Eagle Rock Reservation immediately after our 30" snowstorm in January 2016.
NO.8: West Orange welcomed many new residents in 2016, but none probably got the welcoming that the new giraffes at the Turtle Back Zoo received.
NO.7: In 2016, police/community relations were a topic of discussion almost daily. When we announced that the West Orange Police Dept. would begin wearing body cams in Fall 2016 to continue providing transparency and enhance community relations here in West Orange, Facebook followers gave praise and shared far & wide.
NO.6: Short tribute video from Township Historian, Joseph Fagan, showcasing the important historic significance of the loss of St. Mark's Church using video footage from January 1, 2016 and vintage photos.
NO.5: After 30" of snow fell in January 2016, the Dept. of Public Works spent days clearing roadways and moving snow keeping residents safe and able to get around town. We live-streamed via Periscope a ride-a-long with one of the plow guys and posted it to Facebook.

NO.2: On June 4, 2016, Mt. Pleasant Ave. was transformed into a 1,000 foot Slip N Slide as part of the annual West Orange Street Fair. Over 5,000 people attended for an amazing day of water, food, music, fun, and sun.
NO.1: It's not everyday you get to spend the day with astronauts. On May 19, 2016, West Orange hometown heros and NASA astronauts Scott & Mark Kelly were in town to celebrate "Kelly Family Day." The day included a ceremony on the front steps of Town Hall and a renaming ceremony of their elementary school to "Kelly Elementary". We live-streamed both events via Facebook for all to see.
