Byrne Park was dedicated on May 31, 1954, in honor of Joseph Byrne Sr. He was appointed the first Supervisor of Recreation for West Orange playgrounds in 1913. His tenure was interrupted by World War I. He returned afterward but passed away on November 28, 1928, due to the lingering effects of poison gas.
Byrne Park is operated by the West Orange Recreation Department and is located on Liberty Street.
